A SWINDON AFFAIR: loving Swindon, in Words, Pictures, and Music! Swindon is a town whose writers, artists, and musicians have recorded many aspects of the town’s rich heritage and close communities. This two-part event will explore that rich outpouring, especially the most recent harvest. 3–5pm: Meet the Authors and Painters. A chance to see the wealth of books published about aspects of Swindon – its surprising social history, its poetry, and painting. Meet the authors and artists, as well as some of the people behind the best publishing for Swindon people today, including Swindon Heritage Magazine, The Link magazine, the Swindon Advertiser, and Swindon Viewpoint. This will be a cultural market place, with books and paintings for sale, pop-up author talks, and coffee in The Carriage! Come and enjoy the former Railway Museum in its new life! Free event! 6–9pm: A Multi-Media Evening of Readings and Performances. How can work by local authors steer us toward Swindon’s future? Author of Swindon Decoded, John Chandler, will reflect on the breadth of local work published. There will also be performances of poetry and music, to send us home more in love than ever with Swindon, past, present, and future!
